Sometimes the modern age can get so stuffy, why not try kicking it old school every now and then? We love all things Retro and there is nothing more classic than a 50’s Diner & Soda Shoppe! The perfect throwback for any party or event, so sit back relax and enjoy a blast to the past.
A diner theme doesn’t need to be any one colour scheme.You can play around and have fun with all the bright colours of the 50’s. But there’s one thing that makes this era stand out; bold colours and great geometric shapes like polka dots, squares, and the classic diamond tiles.
For our diner we chose turquoise for booth linens and a classic black and white polka dot linen for our round tables. We also didn’t over look flooring. How could we? Every great diner had tile floors ready for you to start jiving!
Booths are easily created using white loveseats and 4’tables pushed up against a wall. Here you and your friends can gather to grab a shake and share stories about the day or talk about Paul Anka’s new 45.
Invite your guests and get them to dress for the event. Poodle skirts, cat-eyed glasses, cuffed denim jeans and a classic leather jacket add wonderful liveliness and character to your throwback bash!
A Diner & Soda Shoppe calls for candy buffets and food tables! We visited our local Bulk Barn and found so many fabulous retro candies like Pink Candy Popcorn, mixed licorices, and twirled hard candy. Display your candies on neon serving trays and in cute little serving dishes to really make them pop!
There is nothing more classic than the perfect burger & fries. But what if your not feeling those fries? No sweat! Here are some other great diner themed foods:
- hotdogs
- grilled cheese sandwiches
- chicken fingers
- classic veggie and dips
Making this an easy buffet filled with amazing comfort foods.
To really get the Soda Shoppe hoppin’ add milkshakes, whip cream, and flavoured syrups to mix up that perfect malt or soda. For those who don’t want a shake they can enjoy an ice cold Cola that’s ready to serve!
And for the final 50’s touch get the Jukebox out and start a dance contest, playing all your favourite 50’s tunes. After all this is a party!
